Frequently Asked Questions about School Shows and Field Trips
Great question! We invite you to stash your snacks and drinks (if you have them), in our lobby during the performance, rather than bring them in to the theatre.
If you need extra seats for more chaperones or students, please call the school show office at (206) 441-9244 and we will check for availability. Please do not ask parents/chaperones to call as we do not sell single tickets to our student matinee performances. For the safety and security of the students attending the matinees, no additional tickets may be purchased for any parent/chaperone without prior approval from the teacher or school staff member. For this reason, all increases to the ticket amount must come directly from a representative from the school up until 2 days before your scheduled performance.
In keeping with our mission to make live theatre accessible to all children, SCT is proud to offer scholarships in the form of free admissions for our student matinee shows. Our scholarships are allocated based on your school's overall free/reduced price lunch percentage. Unfortunately, we do not have funding to give scholarships to all who request them. Some scholarships are available to schools that have more than 20% of their students on the free/reduced lunch program. In addition to the scholarship program, SCT offers one complimentary ticket for every 25 tickets purchased for the educators attending with their students. Groups of 10 or less are not eligible for complimentary teacher tickets.
Tickets range from $13 to $15 each for teachers, chaperones, and students.
Yes! Please visit the homeschool page for more info!
Photography and videography of any kind are not allowed during the performance. Please feel free to take field trip photos in our lobby or outside, but all cameras and recording devices must be put away before the show begins.
School shows are designed for school and home-school groups only, and are scheduled on weekdays during school hours. Group Sales refers to all other groups of ten or more who receive a discount to public shows, which are scheduled on weekends.
The actual running time of each play is determined about a week before the teacher preview, and will be posted on the play's production page on our website. You may also call the school show office for more specific information. Please note that our shows can run as long as two hours, including intermission, and usually do not last under one hour.

The safety and security of the students attending our school matinees is our top priority. For this reason, specific show information (e.g. length, time, date, etc.) pertaining to a school field trip will only be given to the teacher or school staff member/representative coordinating the field trip. If you are a parent or guardian wishing to find out more information regarding your child's field trip, please contact the school directly. Additionally, students will not be released to anyone other than the teacher or chaperone accompanying the class without the teacher's knowledge or approval. Should a parent or guardian need to pick up a child directly from the theatre for any reason, please notify the school and make arrangements with the teacher or faculty member in charge who will then notify the SCT school show staff of the arrangement. All students will be asked to leave their backpacks in the lobby. Although the lobby is secure and staffed throughout the performance, please encourage your students to leave ipods, cameras, and other valuables on the bus or at school.
At 7 pm on the Tuesday before the opening night of each show, SCT hosts Educator Previews. These are free performances open to educators and are a great chance to catch the show before it's open to the public. See here for a list of this year's Educator Preview dates. Reservations are required for Educator Previews, and you may bring one guest. Before each Educator Preview, we offer Teacher Trainings, for which you also need reservations. The trainings are held from 5:30 to 6:30 pm by professional SCT teaching artists, who model a curriculum that explores the themes and style of that night's play through interactive drama activities that you can take back to your classroom! Our school group performances sell out quickly! We recommend that you so make your reservations early. Our season runs September through June, and we begin taking reservations in the spring prior to the new school year.
Please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your performance start time. You can find the performance start time on your invoice. We ask that one teacher checks in with an SCT staff member when you arrive. When you check-in, please ask your entire group to follow our instructions so that we can get you seated as quickly and efficiently as possible. Any late-comers will be seated at the discretion of the house manager. Please note: every group has a pre-assigned seating assignment; please wait to be seated by an usher. Seats are assigned based on the age of the students attending and with any special needs taken into consideration. If your group has wheelchairs or special needs, please notify the school show office at least one week prior to your performance date.
Once your reservation is received and processed, we will send you an email with your group's performance date and time. Please note that we will mail this information to your school if an email address is not provided. If you do NOT receive a confirmation within two weeks of placing your request, please contact the school show office to confirm that we've received your reservation request. (This excludes reservations booked at or immediately following Sneak Peek. These usually take two weeks or more to process.)
Contracts/invoices will be mailed to you at least two months prior to your performance date. Your payment (or a copy of the purchase order) is due four weeks before the date you are scheduled to attend. Should you need to change your reservation, or if you have challenges in making your payment on time, please call the school show office before the payment due date: (206) 441-9244. We accept credit cards, purchase orders, or a maximum of two checks. Once the payment deadline has passed, we aren't able to decrease your reservation count. We cannot offer refunds for unused tickets after we've received your payment.
We are located on the Seattle Center grounds, on the corner of 2nd Ave N. and Thomas Street. Bus loading is available alongside our building (on 2nd Ave N. and Thomas Street). Carpools and vans may find street parking, in two-hour increments, within two-blocks of the theatre on the west side of Seattle Center. We also encourage you to use public transportation as an affordable and convenient means of transporting your students to Seattle Center. NEED BUS INFO
The majority of performances will include a post-show discussion in the theatre, and they're a lot of fun. In this Q & A style talk-back, audience members will have the chance to ask the actors questions about the play and their experiences. Please contact the school show office to confirm if your particular performance will include a post play discussion.
